The Foundation of Intermedia Department was established in 2015 and started its activity in 2016. The Department of Intermedia was the first field of study of this type among all art schools in Poland, which initiated a unique field of study called INTERMEDIA, contributing to the development of art education in the field of contemporary visual culture and media art. Among the dozens of long-term projects, processes and activities, workshops, creative journeys, exhibitions and festivals organised by the team of Poznań Intermedia artists, we are known to work on cultural events that promote the understanding of art not as a “luxury good” but rather as a set of social tools related to the context of the place where we work. Regardless of whether it is in Poznań or if we operate far away from it. In 2017, our Foundation organised the art journey and teamwork at the prestigious Kathmandu Triennale in Nepal.
Over the past few years, the Foundation has carried out ambitious projects that have received excellent support from the City of Poznań (including “Art-Anniversary” of Izabella Gustowska, one of the most important female artists of contemporary art in Poland, the performative Night of Museums,
which focused several hundred visitors on the activities of a team of performers and artists at the Apollo Passage and old cinema during the Night of Museums, publications related to the history of the former ON Gallery, which operated in Poznań in the years 1977-2012 – with which many of us were connected, ANTISTATIC – a unique event and presentation of the activities of artists associated with the Intermedia Department, which took place at the National Museum in Poznań).
In 2019, we established the OPEN SCHOOL ART, which is to introduce educational and artistic activities to people associated with the animation of culture and pro-social practices who, for various reasons, have not studied art, but can use its contemporary tools in their work. In 2019, thanks to the support of the city, Poznań artists also represented Poland at the prestigious ICCB Biennale in the JaF art collective in Indonesia, with the support of the Polish Embassy in Jakarta. In the following years, the Foundation plans are related to proceed with the Open School program and many art activities in the space of the center of Poznań city, working with numerous partners. Taking into account the changing paradigms of audiovisual culture in the face of the pandemic, we are also establishing an online art institute, where we will make alliances with initiatives similar to ours, share authors’ texts, art-works, podcasts and network our international contacts. We invite you to join us!
